Description
Brunvoll Electric & Hybrid Propulsion System Integration delivers compact, lightweight hybrid propulsion packages combining electric propulsion and diesel drive, with Brunvoll taking full responsibility for system integration. The systems suit workboats and passenger vessels, particularly in harbours and protected areas with requirements for low noise and reduced local emissions.

Operating modes
- DM mode: diesel-mechanical propeller operation up to design speed; the motor/generator can supply the switchboard for battery charging or other consumers
- EL mode: battery-powered electric propulsion for slow steaming, with rpm and pitch optimised for efficiency
- Hybrid mode: EL mode on one propeller and DM mode on the other, increasing redundancy
- Boost mode: DM and EL combined for maximum power, allowing a smaller engine to be selected
Design approach
The configuration is sized from the vessel's operation profile and hull resistance data, which determine electric motor power and battery capacity.
