Business description
Alfa Laval supplies marine equipment and services built on its three core technologies of heat transfer, separation and fluid handling. For ship owners, operators and yards the range covers most critical operations on board and supports compliance with marine legislation and the move to fuels such as marine biofuels, LNG, methanol and ammonia.
- Fuel supply and treatment: fuel supply systems and separators for marine oil treatment, with equipment for LNG and methanol as fuel
- Heat transfer: gasketed plate heat exchangers and other heat exchanger types
- Boilers: Aalborg oil and gas fired steam and hot water boilers
- Fluid handling: pumping systems for the marine and offshore markets, including three-screw pumps
- Emissions and efficiency: scrubbers and air lubrication
- Service: marine service and digital solutions for ship efficiency
About
Alfa Laval is a Swedish group and a global provider of products in heat transfer, separation and fluid handling. Its origins date back to 1878, when Gustaf de Laval and his business partner patented a new milk separator.
The group serves the energy, food, water and marine industries. On the marine side it reports more than a century of marine service and decades of work with shipyards. It runs the Alfa Laval Marine Innovation Centre, where equipment, applications and process lines are tested on the scale of an oceangoing ship.
For the maritime sector the stated aim is to improve vessel performance, enable the fuel transition, reduce emissions and protect the oceans.

System / Package
Aalborg Waste Heat Recovery Economizers
Alfa Laval Aalborg marine waste heat recovery economizers produce steam from main and auxiliary engine exhaust, reducing fired boiler use, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 14%.
System / Package
Adaptive Fuel Line for Biofuels
Alfa Laval Adaptive Fuel Line: a modular, automated fuel handling platform for FAME-based biofuel blends, combining fuel conditioning modules, ALCAP separators and real-time control for multi-fuel operation on existing diesel engines.
System / Package
Alfa Laval Equipment for Ammonia as Marine Fuel
Alfa Laval equipment for ammonia-fuelled ships: FCM Ammonia fuel supply system with release mitigation and fuel valve train, Aalborg ammonia dual-fuel boilers, heat exchangers and Scanjet tank management.
System / Package
Alfa Laval Equipment for LNG as Marine Fuel
Alfa Laval equipment for LNG-fuelled ships: FCM LNG high-pressure fuel supply system with cryogenic pumps and PCHE heat exchangers, fuel-flexible Aalborg boilers handling BOG, and Gas Combustion Unit for LNG carriers.
System / Package
Alfa Laval Equipment for Marine Biofuels
Alfa Laval fuel line equipment for marine biofuels such as FAME and HVO: biofuel-ready high-speed separators, Adaptive Fuel Line, FCM 1.5 multi-fuel supply system and Moatti backflushing filters.
Equipment
Charge air cooling
Alfa Laval charge air coolers for marine and industrial engines, cooling intake air after the turbocharger, with aluminium or copper fins and integrated housings tailored to the engine.
System / Package
Cruise waste heat recovery
Alfa Laval natural-circulation exhaust gas waste heat recovery boilers for cruise ships and ferries, including the Hukka-5 with inverted natural circulation and the Aalborg XWi.
Equipment
Fluidic Air Lubrication
Alfa Laval fluidic air lubrication (OceanGlide) reduces hull friction with an even air layer over the flat bottom, generated by fluidic oscillators with few compressors, cutting propulsion power and fuel use.
System / Package
Heating and cooling for methanol
Alfa Laval heat exchangers for heating and cooling methanol fuel on board: semi-welded plate heat exchangers, AlfaNovaM all-stainless units and CBM copper-brazed units (-196°C to 225°C, 51 bar).
Equipment
Heating and cooling in the engine room
Alfa Laval gasketed plate heat exchangers for engine-room central cooling systems, with titanium central coolers on seawater and excess jacket water heat usable for AQUA Blue freshwater generation.
Equipment
Oceanbird wing sails
Oceanbird rigid wing sails from AlfaWall Oceanbird (Alfa Laval and Wallenius) for wind-assisted or fully sailing newbuilds and retrofits; one Wing 560 can cut RoRo main engine fuel use by 7–10%.
Equipment
OceanGlide
Alfa Laval OceanGlide fluidic air lubrication system creates an even, controllable air layer across a ship's flat bottom to cut hull friction and propulsion power; fuel savings up to 10% reported on M/V Tharsis.
