Tunnel bow thruster for oil, chemical and product tankers with controllable-pitch propeller, electric or hydraulic drive and coated steel tunnel, for berthing and narrow-water manoeuvring.
Description
The Tanker Bow Thruster from Misea Marine is a tunnel-type lateral thruster built into the forward hull of oil, chemical and product tankers, providing transverse thrust for low-speed manoeuvring independent of the main engine and rudder.
Construction
- Transverse tunnel below the waterline in high-strength marine steel with anti-corrosion and anti-fouling coatings
- Controllable-pitch propeller – blade angle changes thrust direction and magnitude
- Electric or hydraulic drive
- Integrated control unit
- Propeller speed and pitch range matched to the large inertia of heavy tankers to avoid thrust fluctuations

- Works with the vessel stationary or at very low speed
- Reduces reliance on tug assistance during berthing and unberthing
- Embedded design does not occupy cargo space
