About

ABB Marine & Ports is the marine business of ABB, a global technology group in electrification and automation with around 110,000 employees and a history of more than 140 years. ABB states that it has provided electric systems on board vessels for more than 110 years and that well over 1300 ships employ its electric system.

ABB developed Azipod propulsion in the late 1980s as a solution combining good maneuverability with high efficiency. The Double Acting principle used with Azipod units lets an icebreaking vessel have a stern optimized for icebreaking and a bow optimized for open water.
