ABB Ability™ OCTOPUS

ABB Ability™ OCTOPUS – Marine Advisory System is a modular product family for vessel performance management, combining ship motion forecasting and performance monitoring to improve safety, availability and energy efficiency. Data can be transferred to the ABB Ability™ Marine Fleet Portal for onshore fleet analysis.

Safety and availability modules

• Response Forecast – forecasts motions, velocities and accelerations for route planning
• Motion Monitoring – single-sensor (MMS-1) or advanced multi-location measurement of motions, with alarm management
• Dynamic Positioning Forecast – predicts whether a DP vessel can maintain position, based on forecast current, wind and wave forces
• Operational Planner – map-based planning of offshore operation stages against limits such as gangway motions, deck angles and crew comfort

Energy efficiency modules

• Performance Monitoring – collects propulsion, fuel consumption and navigation data; supports SEEMP
• Dynamic Trim – advises optimum trim; savings potential up to 5% of propulsion energy costs
• Power Plant Optimization – advises when to start/stop engines and how to balance load
• Energy Flow – visualizes energy production and consumption across the vessel

OCTOPUS Office

Shore-side hydrodynamic software: 2D/3D hull models, hydrodynamic databases, loading conditions, RAO calculation, stochastic linearization, sea state scatter diagrams, spectral moments and short/long-term response statistics.
