Hydraulic Azimuth Thruster

Hydraulically driven 360° azimuth thruster, 50–500 HP, with hydraulic motor directly driving the propeller and proportional control; pod can be lifted for service. For yachts, dredgers, tugs and barges.

Description

The Hydraulic Azimuth Thruster uses a hydraulic pump, driven by the main engine or an auxiliary power unit, to power a hydraulic motor that drives the propeller directly, without gear transmission. A separate hydraulic circuit rotates the pod continuously through 360°.

Technical data

  • Power range: 50 HP to 500 HP
  • Proportional hydraulic control of propeller speed and steering angle
  • Constant-pressure supply allows the engine to run at rated speed while propeller speed is varied in both directions

Construction

  • Hydraulic power station and control valve group installed inboard
  • Streamlined underwater pod with hydraulic motor, propeller and rotary bearing
  • High-strength marine alloy load-bearing parts
  • Modular: components can be replaced individually; pod can be lifted out of the water for maintenance without docking

Key features

  • High torque at low speed without stalling
  • Hydraulic buffering absorbs load shocks
  • Can be retrofitted to unpowered barges and older vessels with little hull modification

Applications

  • Yachts and passenger ships
  • Mud vessels, dredgers and inland engineering ships
  • Tugs and small offshore support vessels
