Marine Retractable Azimuth Thruster

Azimuth thruster that lowers from a hull well for 360° thrust and retracts flush with the baseline when idle. Hydraulic or electric lifting, top-mounted motor, Z-drive; for DP, manoeuvring and emergency propulsion.

Description

The Marine Retractable Azimuth Thruster combines a 360° azimuthing propeller unit with a lifting mechanism. It is lowered from a hull well to its working depth for manoeuvring, station keeping or dynamic positioning, and retracted into the hull during transit so it sits flush with the ship's baseline and adds no drag.

Construction

  • Lifting/retraction mechanism (hydraulic or electric) with position locking
  • 360° azimuth rotation system and propeller unit, Z-drive power transmission
  • Vertical top-mounted drive motor with direct transmission, without intermediate shafting or quick-release couplings
  • Low-noise gearbox
  • Corrosion-resistant marine alloy housing with anti-fouling coating

Key features

  • Omnidirectional thrust for lateral movement, turning on the spot and fine positioning
  • Automatic control with manual emergency override
  • Can act as emergency backup propulsion if the main propulsion fails
  • Low vibration and noise

Applications

  • Offshore supply vessels, platform maintenance ships and jack-up drilling platforms
  • Research and survey vessels
  • Standby rescue and salvage vessels
  • Yachts and special-purpose vessels
