OpWind® Wind-Assisted Propulsion Optimisation
Control function for sail-assisted vessels with CPP that senses sail contribution and continuously adjusts propeller pitch and rpm within the engine load margin; runs in the Berg MPC system, based on DynamicDrive.
Description
OpWind® is a propulsion optimisation function from Berg Propulsion for ocean-going sail-assisted vessels with controllable pitch propellers. When sails add thrust, a conventional setup tends to run the propeller at too low pitch and too high rpm; OpWind automatically corrects the operating point so the propeller stays efficient at every level of wind assist. It is not a sail device itself but works with existing wind-assist systems.
Key features
- Automatic sail contribution sensing and real-time optimisation
- Increases pitch and reduces unnecessary rpm as wind thrust rises
- Keeps engine load safely within the available margin
- Adapts to changing wind, sea, hull and sail conditions; no manual tuning or fixed combinator curves
- Built on Berg DynamicDrive® functionality and runs inside the Berg MPC control system
Applications
- Ocean-going sail-assisted vessels with CPP, newbuild or retrofit; integration scope tailored to each vessel
