GreenGenerator

Mega-Guard DC bus generator: diesel engine with permanent magnet generator and high power inverter, 140–400 kW, 384–960 VDC nominal, for marine hybrid and electric propulsion.

Description

The Mega-Guard GreenGenerator (DC bus Generator, DCG) from Praxis Automation Technology combines a diesel engine with a permanent magnet generator, whose output is converted to the DC bus by a Mega-Guard High Power Inverter (HPI). The HPI also starts, stops, sets RPM for and monitors the diesel engine.

Key features

  • Power range 140 kW to 400 kW; multiple units can share the DC bus for more power and redundancy
  • DC bus voltages from 384 to 960 VDC nominal
  • Permanent magnet generator (a Mega-Guard electric propulsion motor used as generator) coupled directly to the engine flywheel
  • HPI with 5" touchscreen showing local/remote control, run status, kW, RPM, load percentage and running hours, plus emergency stop that stops the engine and disconnects from the DC bus
  • Two independent cooling systems: seawater-cooled engine with seawater pump; water/glycol cooling for the HPI

Configurations

  • Light duty / light weight: 4- or 6-cylinder common rail engine, 12 VDC starting and alternator, variable speed up to 3800 RPM, up to 1500 running hours per year
  • Heavy duty: 6-cylinder 10 l or 12 l engine, 24 VDC starting and alternator, variable speed up to 1800 RPM, designed for continuous running
