Refit of the engine room safety, monitoring and control system for Wärtsilä W38 L and V diesel engines with a new Mega-Guard ECS cabinet, reusing existing sensors and wiring.

Description

The Mega-Guard Engine Control System (ECS) refit from Praxis Automation Technology replaces the engine room safety and monitoring system of Wärtsilä W38 L- and V-type diesel engines, upgrading it to current operational and safety standards and extending the engine's life.

Scope

New ECS in a 1200 x 1200 x 400 mm steel cabinet mounted in the original steel frame on 4 rubber buffers
Engine sensors and actuators reconnected via detachable connectors; external cables labelled and reconnected
Sensors and engine functions tested to a test protocol

Safety system

Independent programmable system: automatic overspeed shutdown, safety shutdowns for engine and external (e.g. gearbox) conditions, manual emergency stop, RPM indication, self- and sensor diagnostics

Monitoring & control system

Built from Mega-Guard Vessel Management System panel PC and I/O modules
Backup safety shutdown, alarm monitoring, load (RPM) reduction requests
Remote and local start/stop, remote RPM setpoint, interface to the W38 Woodward governor
Standby pump interface (lube oil, HT/LT cooling water), LT cooling water thermostat control, pre-lube pump control

Governor refit options

Keep the original Woodward governor
Woodward governor refit, with or without actuator refit
Praxis governor refit (replacement speed controller and actuator)

Can be combined with a refit to the Mega-Guard Propulsion Control System, sharing the same E-series hardware and network architecture to minimise spare parts.
