Ram Type Steering Gear
Electro-hydraulic ram type steering gear, 2 or 4 cylinders, 1 or 2 rams, 160–1000 kNm working torque for 250–500 mm rudder stocks, 2x35° or 2x45° rudder angle.
Description
The Fountom Ram Type Steering Gear is an electro-hydraulic steering gear that produces high torque for a given power. Hydraulic cylinders act on the arms of an actuator connected to the rudder stock; electrically driven pumps pressurize opposite cylinder pairs, and control valves operated from the wheelhouse reverse the flow to turn the rudder in either direction. Hydraulic pressure is typically 100–175 bar depending on rudder size and required torque.
