Becker Rotary Vane Steering Gear

The Becker Rotary Vane Steering Gear is a class-compliant rotary vane actuator supplied together with hydraulic power units (HPUs) and a control and alarm system, designed for easy installation, easy handling and low maintenance.

Actuator

• One housing with two covers, one rotor and several integrated vanes
• Radial loads taken by two self-lubricated radial bearings; axial loads by an integrated self-lubricated rudder carrier bearing
• In-house developed seals prevent external oil leakage and reduce internal leakage between chambers
• Hydraulic mounting on a conical rudder stock (oil grooves at rudder stock)
• Integrated mechanical stoppers and mechanical rudder angle indicator
• Elastic mounting on the foundation

Hydraulic power units

• Each HPU has at least one oil tank, electric motor and hydraulic pump
• Closed-loop circuit with variable displacement pump; safety valves against overload
• Oil filters, temperature sensor, oil-level switches and air coolers
• Up to two HPUs on one transport grid; low energy consumption and low noise

Control system

• Becker in-house control software; one starter box per HPU, terminal box and panels
• LCD touch panel; system information shown on the ECR indication panel
• Local control from a terminal box at the actuator
