Marine Side Thruster

Marine side (tunnel) thruster producing transverse thrust for low-speed docking and narrow-water manoeuvring; electric or hydraulic drive, fixed- or variable-pitch propeller.

Description

The Side Thruster from Misea Marine is an auxiliary propulsion unit that produces transverse thrust perpendicular to the ship's centreline, allowing lateral movement, turning on the spot and fine position adjustment at zero or very low speed. It is installed in a bow, stern or midship tunnel.

System components

  • Transverse tunnel through the hull in high-strength marine steel
  • Fixed- or variable-pitch propeller; bidirectional operation for port and starboard thrust with speed regulation
  • Electric or hydraulic drive (hydraulic for higher overload resistance on heavy-duty vessels)
  • Control and protection system with control panels, speed regulators and monitoring sensors; remote and local operation; overcurrent, overheating and overload protection

Applications

Cruise ships, passenger ferries, ro-ro ships and large container ships; offshore wind farm maintenance vessels, drilling platforms and survey ships (dynamic positioning); tugboats, rescue ships and port work boats.
