WinGD X-DF Dual-Fuel LNG Engines

WinGD X-DF low-pressure (Otto cycle) and X-DF-HP high-pressure (Diesel cycle) dual-fuel two-stroke engines running on LNG, with X-DF2.0 technologies to cut fuel consumption and methane slip.

Description

WinGD's X-DF dual-fuel two-stroke engines run on liquefied natural gas or conventional fuel. Fossil LNG gives an immediate 15–20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and blending or replacing it with synthetic or bio-LNG reduces emissions further without engine modification. WinGD has had LNG engines in operation since 2016.

Engine concepts

  • X-DF (low-pressure, Otto cycle): LNG is admitted at low pressure before compression and ignited by a high-pressure pilot fuel injection, giving lean-burn combustion with lower temperatures and emissions. Low-cost, efficient fuel injection concept suited to most vessel applications.
  • X-DF-HP (high-pressure, Diesel cycle): LNG is injected directly into the cylinder at very high pressure alongside a small pilot quantity, for robust combustion and high efficiency. Aimed at the highest power demands such as ultra large container vessels, VLCCs and very large ore carriers.

X-DF2.0 technologies

  • Reduced fuel consumption and methane slip in gas mode
  • iCER (Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling) is the first X-DF2.0 application
  • X72DF-2.2 designed for LNG carriers

Key benefits

  • Lower operating costs
  • Reduced methane slip and CO2 emissions
  • Proven design for reliability and safety

Applications

Tankers, container vessels, bulk carriers, multipurpose vessels, gas carriers and PCTCs.
