Voith Electric Voith Schneider Propeller (eVSP)

Electric Voith Schneider Propeller combining the VSP cycloidal principle with an integrated gearless permanent-magnet motor from the Voith Inline Thruster; stepless thrust in all directions for offshore vessels, ferries and tugs.

Description

The electric Voith Schneider Propeller (eVSP) combines the advantages of the Voith Schneider Propeller with the electric motor of the Voith Inline Thruster, creating a compact, energy-efficient propulsion and steering unit. Like the conventional VSP, it delivers maximum thrust in all directions, steplessly and with high precision.

Key features

  • Directly integrated permanent-magnet (PM) motor with high torque and fast response, without a gearbox
  • Higher efficiency with nearly loss-free conversion of electrical power into thrust
  • Minimal noise and vibration, with an option for noise/shock damping
  • Fast acceleration and response for precise, safe manoeuvring
  • Fully integrated motor for flexible installation and minimal space requirement
  • Maintenance-free motor with low operating costs
  • Optional Voith Roll Stabilization (VRS)
  • Optional environmentally acceptable lubricants (EAL)

Eight-blade version

  • Eight blades further reduce noise and underwater radiated sound
  • First used on the research vessel Meteor IV, which is propelled by two eVSP and one Voith Inline Thruster

Applications

Offshore vessels (e.g. service operation vessel Edda Wind), ferries, tugs and research vessels.
