Steerprop Equipment

Tunnel Thrusters

Steerprop tunnel thrusters tailored to each vessel, 500-7,000 kW, with fixed pitch propellers, L-drive or integrated permanent magnet motor drive, and optional Polar Class certification without ice grids.

Description

Steerprop Tunnel Thrusters are dimensioned individually for each vessel rather than offered in fixed sizes. Hull form and tunnel parameters are analysed computationally, and propeller, motor, drive configuration, gearbox and mounting are all customisable.

Key features

  • Fixed pitch propellers (FPP) delivering up to 20% more thrust than controllable pitch alternatives
  • Lower installed power and smaller tunnel apertures, reducing vibration and underwater radiated noise
  • Tunnel optimisation (e.g. rounded or chamfered openings) to increase hull side-force contribution and thrust
  • Flexible mountings limit vibration transfer into the hull
  • Steerprop Care condition monitoring included as standard

Technical data

  • Power range: 500-7,000 kW
  • Drive configuration: L-drive or integrated permanent magnet motor

Arctic version

Arctic Tunnel Thrusters can be certified to Polar Class and operate without ice grids, maximising water flow and thrust while reducing ice clogging and simplifying propeller access.

Applications

  • Offshore vessels
  • Cruise ships and ferries
  • Ice-classed vessels
