mtu Reman & Overhaul Solutions (Commercial Marine)

Factory remanufacturing, factory overhaul and in-situ overhaul of mtu marine engines and systems, returning equipment to like-new condition with fixed pricing, fixed turnaround times and full factory warranty.

Description

mtu Reman & Overhaul Solutions for commercial marine return mtu engines and systems at the end of their lifecycle to like-new condition, with the same performance, service life and quality standards as comparable new mtu products. Work is carried out by the original manufacturer, with fixed pricing and turnaround times agreed up front and a full factory warranty on the restored equipment. Applicable to ferries, tugs and other vessel types.

Service options

  • Factory Reman – exchange for a factory remanufactured unit; faster than an individual overhaul and less expensive than new equipment, with identical warranty coverage to new products and design/model-related updates.
  • Factory Overhaul – the customer's original equipment is restored to like-new condition using the same standards as factory remanufacturing. The complete system, including gearboxes, loose parts (oil cooler, etc.) and automation/electronics, is restored. Valid for Series 183, 396, 493, 538, 595, 652, 956, 1163 and various Defense engines.
  • In-situ Overhaul – overhaul performed directly inside the ship when the engine cannot be removed; available as a comprehensive standard overhaul or a more basic, condition-based service.
  • Extension of time between overhauls – a solution to extend intervals between major overhauls, reducing downtime, emissions and lifecycle costs (first applied on the Lake Constance ferry Lodi).

Circular economy approach

  • Deposit included in the price of engines to encourage return of end-of-life engines for reconditioning
  • Old parts are remanufactured to high quality standards and reused to shorten turnaround times
  • Industrially repeatable overhaul procedures, with standards set at the Magdeburg, Germany test benches and applied worldwide
  • Aim to reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption in delivering remanufactured or overhauled products
