Harvest Vessel Design FX501 (Stun-and-Bleed)

Ulstein FX501 harvest vessel concept that harvests farmed fish at sea, stunning, bleeding and chilling them onboard to eliminate live fish transport to shore.

Description

A harvest vessel, also called a stun-and-bleed vessel, harvests farmed fish at the farm and stuns, bleeds and chills them onboard, removing the need for live fish transport to shore. Ulstein’s FX501 concept adapts its vessel design experience to modern aquaculture operations.

How it works

  • Harvest: fish are transferred directly from the pen to the vessel using gentle handling systems
  • Stun and bleed: fish are processed immediately in a controlled, humane stun-and-bleed operation
  • Chill and transport: product is stored in chilled seawater tanks and transported to shore under controlled conditions

Key features

  • Reduced handling and a more predictable, biosecure harvesting process
  • Concepts adaptable to different harvesting volumes, operating patterns and welfare objectives
  • Robust seakeeping and reliable onboard systems

Applications

Fish farmers, service providers and seafood companies performing harvesting at sea.
