mtu Factory Overhaul

mtu Factory Overhaul returns the customer's original engine or system to like-new condition at selected mtu factory locations, restoring it to original factory specification. The complete system is covered, including gearboxes, loose parts such as oil coolers, and automation/electronics. It applies to Series 183, 396, 493, 538, 595, 652, 956, 1163, Series 2000/4000 and various defense engines.

Process

• Disassembly and cleaning: complete disassembly; paint and rust removed from all parts
• Investigation: on-site lab analysis of fluids and materials; measurement of all parts against factory tolerances and wear limits; crack testing; identification of modernisation needs; optional documentation of findings
• Reworking: machining with series production processes to like-new tolerances; supplier components (crankshafts, coolers, heat exchanger inserts, couplings) overhauled with the original manufacturers or audited sub-suppliers
• Reassembly: remanufactured parts plus new wear parts (gaskets, seals, bolts); current tools, specifications and drawings; documented key dimensions; design and model updates where applicable
• Acceptance testing: test run with order-specific settings replicating difficult field conditions such as extreme temperatures; documentation of engine values; optional customer or classification society participation
• Final preparation: priming, painting and commercial, seaworthy or long-term preservation packaging
