Davis Exhaust Plume Trajectory Analysis
Empirical exhaust plume trajectory analysis by W.R. Davis Engineering, based on naval ship measurement data, predicting stack exhaust impingement temperatures for ships and offshore platforms.
Description
Davis Exhaust Plume Trajectory Analysis is an empirical prediction method from W.R. Davis Engineering for the behaviour of stack exhaust plumes, as an alternative to costly full-scale or scale-model testing.
Method
- Based mainly on Baham's 1977 correlations, derived from measured data on a British cruiser and full-scale U.S. DD-964 measurements
- Additional equation for stacks not perpendicular to the wind
- Software calculates impingement temperatures at arbitrary locations relative to the stack exit for a range of wind speeds and headings
- Combined with wind probability data for the installation's location
Applications
Ship exhaust stacks and offshore installations, e.g. exhaust impingement on drilling derricks.
