Description
The WE Tech Hybrid Shaft Generator (Solution Five, hybrid electric propulsion) connects the shaft generator to the vessel's electrical network via WE Drive®, with power distributed through a combination of AC switchboards and DC power distribution. An Energy Storage System (ESS) on the DC distribution provides fast power response, peak shaving and dynamic power support.
How it works
The solution combines hybrid propulsion machinery with ship-wide DC-bus power distribution to all consumers, increasing energy efficiency by up to 35%. It uses variable speed auxiliary generators and permanent magnet rotating machines. Dedicated inverter units per consumer keep fault currents to a minimum, reducing the need for large switchboards and bulky transformers.
