Serial hybrid propulsion for (semi-)displacement yachts with variable speed generators, electric motors and lithium-ion batteries; five modes incl. zero-emission cruising and up to 12 h engines-off at anchor.
Description
The e-Motion Serial Hybrid is a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system for (semi-)displacement yachts. Variable speed generators and high-voltage lithium-ion batteries supply the electric propulsion motors and the hotel load.
Operating modes
1. Diesel-electric navigation – variable speed generators power the electric motors for medium/long-range cruising
2. Zero-emission navigation – generators off; batteries alone power the electric motors and hotel load, with no noise or exhaust
3. Generator fast charge – generators run at high speed to charge the batteries and supply the hotel load; batteries reach 90% charge in as little as 30 minutes
4. Hotel-load zero emissions – batteries power all yacht electrical systems; at anchor the yacht is fully operational for up to 12 hours with all diesel engines off
5. Shore power and plug-in charging – worldwide shore power compatibility without a separate shore power converter
