ULSTEIN Power Management System (PMS™)

The ULSTEIN Power Management System (PMS™) is a scalable power management system for small and large vessels of any complexity, designed to improve the safety and fuel efficiency of vessel operations. It is part of the X-CONNECT® platform and is accessed through the same integrated user interface.

Functions

• Load sharing between diesel generators based on compensated droop philosophy
• Load shedding: tripping of low-priority consumers to avoid blackout
• Heavy consumer handling: prepares generators before large loads such as bow thrusters or fire-fighting pumps are activated
• Status information from circuit breakers, bus-ties and generators, with pre-warnings for start/stop errors and breaker status
• Monitoring of active and reactive load
• Blackout prevention, detection of partial and total blackout, and automatic recovery of power generation
• Forced limitation of the number of generators connected to the grid
• Manual generator start/stop, user-defined start sequences and load-dependent start/stop order
• Automatic transitions between power plant configurations for different vessel operations

Compatibility

For vessels whose propulsion is powered by batteries or other alternative power sources, X-CONNECT® provides an integrated Energy Management System (ULSTEIN EMS™) or remote control of a third-party EMS.
