Servogear Effect Rudder

Asymmetric airfoil rudder forming part of the Servogear CPP system; generates lift and forward thrust from the propeller slipstream while minimising drag. Stainless steel or NiAl bronze castings.

Description

The Servogear Effect Rudder is part of the Servogear controllable pitch propeller (CPP) system, the Ecoflow Propulsor™. It is designed as an airfoil that produces lift in the water flow, which in turn generates forward thrust, resulting in minimum drag on the rudder.

Key features

  • One-piece casting with slim design
  • Asymmetric airfoil wing design
  • Twisted blade reduces rotational losses
  • Stainless steel or nickel aluminium bronze castings; most are high-tensile stainless steel to minimise blade thickness, designed with progressive strength

How it works

The rudder and propeller cone are arranged to recover part of the rotational energy in the propeller slipstream. The inclined flow from the propeller creates a pressure and a suction side on the rudder blade, and the seal between rudder and propeller cone makes the pressure balance work against the rotating water flow, reducing rotational energy losses.
