M38 hydraulic starter motor

Powerstart M38 hydraulic starter motor delivering 124 Nm maximum torque at 3,000 psi (207 bar); fully cast iron, with steel or non-spark beryllium-copper pinion.

Description

The Powerstart M38 hydraulic starter motor is a high-torque, fully cast iron starter (including flange and pinion housing) for demanding applications.

Key features

  • Heavy-duty inertia bendix and pinion machined from one cast block, eliminating the pressed-on pinion that is a common failure point in other starters
  • Interchangeable pinion and mounting flange, so the starter can be configured to suit most engines
  • Hydraulic energy can be stored indefinitely when installed and maintained to Powerstart specifications, and recharged with a hand pump after discharge
  • Unaffected by very hot or cold conditions (with correct oil viscosity) and reliable after long shutdown periods
  • Low maintenance: enclosed design with all internal components immersed in oil, protecting them from conditions that damage electric or vane starters

Configurations

  • Steel pinion, or beryllium-copper non-spark pinion to reduce the risk of sparks in potentially hazardous environments

Technical data

  • Maximum torque: 124 Nm at 3,000 psi (207 bar)
  • Construction: cast iron, including flange and pinion housing
