Description
JAWS (Just Add Water System) is a data-driven trim and draft advisory application running on Kongsberg Maritime's Information Management System (K-IMS). It keeps the vessel sailing with optimal trim and draft settings, even after captain and crew changes, and supports CO2 reduction and Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) compliance.
Key features
- Onboard interface advising the crew on optimal trim and draft for current or planned conditions across various speed segments
- No hull performance test data or additional hardware required; only K-IMS (platform and data logger) is needed
- Onshore version with KPI cards for onboard usage, energy savings and vessel efficiency, a time/voyage selector, tables, graphs and a voyage map
- Technology developed, tested and verified by Shell on operating vessels and taken through DNV's technology qualification process

- Trim and draft optimisation savings stated in the range of 3-7%
- Example vessel: followed JAWS advice 38.4% of the time over six months and saved 726,000 kWh, an average energy saving of 3.81% compared with the crew's previous best-practice settings
