Description
The Bosch unit injector for large engines is an electronically controlled single-cylinder injection pump with integrated injection nozzle and solenoid valve, installed directly in the cylinder head of the diesel engine. One injector is assigned to each cylinder.
Operating principle
The injector is driven by an injection cam on the engine camshaft via a rocker lever. A fast-switching solenoid valve (open when not energized) determines injection start and quantity, which can be freely programmed. When the valve is energized during the pump piston's delivery stroke, pressure builds up and fuel is injected once nozzle opening pressure is exceeded. There is no high-pressure line between pump and nozzle.
