Vessel Upgrades & Conversions at Ulstein Verft

Ulstein upgrades vessels to updated, ready-classed versions or converts them to new segments, combining design and engineering, shipbuilding at Ulstein Verft (with dock hall) and power & control integration. Conversion designs can be based on ULSTEIN or external designs.

Conversion options

• PSV to multipurpose support vessel, light subsea construction vessel or offshore wind service vessel
• Offshore vessel to fish carrier or expedition cruise vessel
• General modernisation with technical upgrades for improved fuel efficiency

Reference projects

• Esvagt Leah and Esvagt Heidi (PX121 PSVs, 2021): converted to ERRV with project management, procurement, engineering and production by Ulstein; battery deckhouse with grid support unit for hybrid power, methanol tanks rebuilt to carry liquids under the OSV Chemical Code, new prefabricated deckhouses with rescue zones and Fast Rescue Boats; Ulstein Power & Control delivered power and automation for the battery package, frequency converter, drives and switchboard reconstruction, plus installation and commissioning
• Normand Cutter and Normand Clipper: cable laying vessels converted at Ulstein Verft into pipelaying/construction vessels, a major conversion carried out in five months
• Kasteelborg (ex Blue Queen): PX121 PSV converted at an external yard to a W2W ERRV; Ulstein performed weight estimates, stability and electrical balance calculations, motion analysis and heel test for the new accommodation block, motion-compensated crane and gangway
• Ocean Adventurer: expedition cruise vessel refurbishment with technical upgrades for increased fuel efficiency
