Ship Model Testing
Small-scale and large free-running ship, submarine and helicopter-ditching model testing by Sirehna, from need analysis and model manufacture to basin or open-sea trials and data analysis, complementing numerical simulation.
Description
Sirehna offers complete ship model testing packages, small scale or real size, to understand the hydrodynamic behaviour and performance of naval platforms and to complement numerical simulations. Tests are performed on free-running models fully balanced in mass and inertia, in basins, lakes or open sea.
Scope of work
- Need analysis: measurement and qualification of physical behaviour, technology assessment, operational demonstration in a representative environment
- Model making: specification of measuring equipment, test device architecture (data acquisition, communication, power management, mechanical supports), detailed design, manufacture, integration and validation
- Model testing: test plans and checklists, test campaign management, test logistics, operation of experimental devices, support for trials at sea, lake or basin
- Test analysis: data processing tools, analysis of hydrodynamic and environmental test data, detailed reporting

- Small high-fidelity models, e.g. for helicopter ditching tests (< 2 m, 6 kg)
- Large models to limit scale effects, e.g. a 10 m, 9 t waterproof remotely controlled trawler model for small-ship dynamic stability assessment
- Large-scale submarine models up to 10 m for underwater manoeuvrability assessment
