Mecmar SCR with Direct Ammonia Injection
Mecmar marine SCR NOx reduction system using direct ammonia injection instead of urea, saving space and weight for smaller vessels such as fast passenger ferries.
Description
The Mecmar Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system with Direct Ammonia Injection reduces NOx emissions from marine engines by injecting ammonia directly into the exhaust gas rather than using liquid urea. This removes the need for a urea storage tank and the decomposition length of exhaust pipe before the SCR unit, making SCR feasible on smaller, weight- and space-critical vessels.
Key features
- No urea storage tank; simpler injection and control system and more compact design
- Ammonia bottles stored at the stern in a dedicated trunk, away from passenger areas
- All distribution lines inside a gas-tight cofferdam monitored for ammonia leakage
- Trunk sealed at deck level by a Butterworth hatch and vented to sea via a pressure relief valve, so any leak is diluted below the waterline
- Cylindrical ammonia module, independent of orientation, connected by a leak-free instantaneous coupling that engages under gravity; seal is leak-tested before the bottle is opened
- Module size based on the vessel's operational profile and route
Main components
- Standard SCR components (without urea tank)
- Ammonia bottle module(s)
- Ammonia module trunk
Applications
- Fast passenger ferries and other small vessels
- Larger vessels where space and weight are critical
