Logan Clutch Component

CH Series Clutches

Logan Type CH air or hydraulic clutches for marine propulsion, mooring winches and Z-drives; seven sizes from 5532 Nm to 144,000 Nm, ABS type approved, wet or dry operation.

Description

Logan Type CH clutches are heavy-duty, air- or hydraulically actuated clutches for marine propulsion, gearboxes, Z-drives and winches. Friction disc packs operate wet or dry; as a wet clutch, coolant oil is applied by splash, spray or forced through an internal shaft passage. The hub is bored and keyseated for shaft mounting, with torque transferred from the disc pack to a splined drive ring. They suit stern drive tugs, escort vessels and workboats needing high torque in a small envelope.

Technical data

  • Seven sizes, torque from 49,000 lb-in (5532 Nm) to 1,280,000 lb-in (144,000 Nm)
  • Maximum pressure: 200 psi (13.8 bar) wet, 120 psi (8.3 bar) dry
  • Operating speed: 1 to 2200 RPM
  • Seal temperature range: -65 °F to +300 °F (-54 °C to +149 °C)
  • Stronger release springs available for disengagement at higher speeds; higher torque and pressure in the HPC series

Key features

  • ABS type approval; Lloyd's and DNV certification available per project
  • Self-lubricating, long-wearing seals
  • Wear- and corrosion-treated cylinder housing and splines
  • Positive mechanical lock-up "come home" feature for emergency operation
  • Sintered bronze friction material in oil for smooth, high-energy engagement

Applications

  • Marine propulsion
  • Marine mooring winches
  • Drawworks
  • Mine hoists, overland conveyors and fan drives
