Logan Clutch Component

HPC Series Clutches

Logan HPC hydraulically actuated heavy-duty clutches for marine propulsion and mooring winches, ten sizes from 16,384 Nm to 325,424 Nm, up to 29 in, ABS type approved.

Description

Logan Type HPC clutches are hydraulically actuated heavy-duty clutches and brakes. Similar to the CH Series, they operate at higher actuation pressures and transmit more torque in a smaller envelope, in sizes up to 29 in (73.66 cm). Friction disc packs suit wet or dry operation, with actuation through internal shaft and clutch passages.

Technical data

  • Ten sizes, torque from 145,000 lb-in (16,384 Nm) to 2,880,000 lb-in (325,424 Nm)
  • Maximum pressure: 360 psi (25 bar) wet, 240 psi (16.5 bar) dry
  • Operating speed: 1 to 2200 RPM
  • Seal temperature range: -65 °F to +300 °F (-54 °C to +149 °C)
  • Stronger release springs, higher torque and higher actuation pressures available as modified standards

Operation

Pressurising the cylinder with fluid or air drives the piston to clamp the friction and separator discs, transferring torque to the drive cup. When pressure is released, release springs separate the discs and maintain running clearance. In wet use, coolant oil is applied by splash, spray or forced through the disc pack from an internal shaft passage. The hub is bored and keyseated for shaft mounting, with torque transferred to a splined drive ring.

Key features

  • ABS type approval; Lloyd's and DNV certification available
  • Self-lubricating, long-wearing seals
  • Wear- and corrosion-treated cylinder housing and splines
  • Positive mechanical lock-up "come home" feature for emergency operation
  • Sintered bronze friction material in oil for smooth, high-energy engagement

Applications

  • Marine propulsion
  • Marine mooring winches
  • Drawworks
  • Mine hoists, overland conveyors and fan drives
