Autonav Type R Rotary Vane Hydraulic Steering Systems
Autonav Type R medium-pressure rotary vane steering gear for commercial and naval vessels: 10,000 kPa operation, over 90% mechanical efficiency, rudder angles up to 2 x 70 degrees, selected for Canadian Navy frigates.
Description
The Autonav Type R rotary vane steering gear is a compact, medium-pressure rudder actuator for commercial and naval vessels, designed with the National Research Council of Canada and meeting classification requirements worldwide. It was chosen for Canadian Navy frigates.
Key features
- Only one moving part; totally enclosed, oil-filled, corrosion-proof actuator
- Mechanical efficiency over 90%; rudder positioning accuracy better than 0.2%
- Automatic actuator isolation; all protective valving external
- Long-life, low-friction, low-leakage seals tolerant of contamination; seal and bearing life over 70,000 hours
- Integral self-lubricating radial and carrier bearings; balanced torque; integral rudder stops
- Chockfast mountings for self-alignment without fitted bolts
- Withstands over 100 G shock; 20 dB quieter than U.S. Naval specifications
- Optional variable frequency drives (VFD) for fast, smooth rudder positioning with reduced wear and heat
Technical data
- Operating pressure: 10,000 kPa (1450 psi)
- Rudder angles up to 2 x 70 degrees (depending on actuator model)
Control options
Hydraulic or electric full follow-up, electric time-dependent (non follow-up), or manual hydraulic, assembled from standardised Autonav components.
