Ulstein CSOV / SOV / Walk-to-Work Vessel Designs
Ulstein designs for commissioning service operation vessels (CSOV), SOVs and walk-to-work vessels for offshore wind and oil & gas, with X-BOW®/TWIN X-STERN® hulls, motion-compensated gangways and hybrid propulsion.
Description
Ulstein CSOV / SOV / Walk-to-Work vessel designs are purpose-built ships that house technicians offshore and transfer them safely to wind turbines and installations via motion-compensated gangways, for construction, commissioning, maintenance and operations in offshore wind and oil and gas. Ulstein has designed or redesigned 23 walk-to-work vessels, 21 of them in operation, servicing more than 5,000 turbines and over 95,000 gangway connections per year; the first, Seaway Moxie, was delivered in 2014.
Key features
- Motion-compensated gangway systems for safe personnel transfer
- X-BOW®, X-STERN® and TWIN X-STERN® hull designs for improved seakeeping
- TWIN X-STERN®: symmetric hull with four azimuth thrusters (two at each end) for manoeuvrability, lower energy consumption and reduced motions
- Dynamic positioning for station-keeping close to turbines
- High accommodation capacity and onboard comfort
- Hybrid propulsion and energy storage for lower fuel consumption
- Prepared for alternative fuels
- Build in Norway or through Ulstein's global partner shipyard network

OMEGA Reinforced Laser Plate Banks for Cargo Hold Heating
Structurally reinforced stainless laser-plate heat-exchanger banks that replace failing pipe coils in barge and tanker cargo holds — built to survive sloshing loads in part-filled tanks while heating crude oil, caustic soda and other cargoes.
Equipment
OceanGlide
Alfa Laval OceanGlide fluidic air lubrication system creates an even, controllable air layer across a ship's flat bottom to cut hull friction and propulsion power; fuel savings up to 10% reported on M/V Tharsis.
Equipment
Everllence 35/44DF CD Dual-Fuel GenSet
Medium-speed dual-fuel GenSet with 560 kW per cylinder output and up to 85% lower methane slip than current industry standards, based on the 35/44DF CR and 32/44CR, prepared for methanol upgrade.
