Kort Nozzles & Propellers

Kort Nozzles and Propellers are custom designed for each vessel type. Nozzles are well established on towing vessels such as tugs and fishing boats, and optimised designs also improve performance on coasters, inland waterway craft and bulk carriers. Kort draws on over 90 years of model tests and full-scale trials.

Range

• Propellers from 100 mm diameter (ROV thrusters) to 5,300 mm and above for commercial vessels
• Controllable pitch propeller blades for nozzle operation up to 5,300 mm diameter
• High-definition propellers and impellers for high-speed craft with conventional propulsion, surface-piercing drives and waterjets
• Propellers for azimuthing units and tunnel thrusters

Rudders and nozzles

• Triple rudders – single or triple rudder system integrated into the nozzle structure; with HR or KP nozzles the turning circle is reduced by up to 75% compared with an open propeller and single-blade rudder; supplied complete with bearings, linkages and mounting flanges
• Flap rudder – balanced design with flap area for manoeuvrability and efficiency
• Steerable nozzle – higher lateral forces for better manoeuvring, less space needed and better efficiency by placing the propeller further aft than with a fixed nozzle

Consultancy and packages

• Advice on propulsion system and engine/gearbox selection, performance estimates and attendance on trials
• Supply of complete propulsion and manoeuvring packages including sterngear, seals, engine cooling systems, tunnel thrusters, rudders and steering gear
