Ecospray Equipment
Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells
Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells (MCFC) for ships that generate power and capture up to 90% of CO2 from engine exhaust fed to the cathode; run on LNG, bio-LNG, hydrogen, ammonia or syngas.
Description
Ecospray Molten Carbonate Fuel Cells (MCFC) combine high-efficiency power generation and carbon capture in the same equipment. With no moving parts in the fuel cell, maintenance requirements are low.
How it works onboard
CO2-rich exhaust gas from the ship's power generation system is fed to the fuel cell cathode, where up to 90% of the CO2 is captured. The CO2 transferred to the anode outlet can then be separated and liquefied for further use. The technology captures CO2 efficiently even at very low concentrations.
Key features
- Fuels: methane (LNG, bio-LNG), hydrogen, ammonia, syngas and others, with reforming/cracking external or inside the cell
- Compact, with reduced opex
- Can be integrated with other Ecospray systems such as DeSOx scrubbers, particle filters and oxidation catalysts
Applications
All ship types, especially in combination with bio-LNG or super-bio-LNG.
