Watts Marine Shore Power System
Patent-pending shore-side power system for cruise ships with dual-voltage distribution, cable management and automated monitoring and control, delivering 3.5 MW to 14 MW.
Description
The Watts Marine Shore Power System is a patent-pending, proprietary shore-side system developed for cruise ships. It combines dual-voltage power distribution, cable management systems, and electronic monitoring and control so a docked vessel can shut down its diesel engines and run all onboard systems on shore electricity.
How it works
- The shore-side operator selects the vessel from a database, and the automation system configures power parameters for that ship class
- Protection relays and redundant safety systems secure the electrical connection between vessel and shore
- The vessel transitions from diesel generation to shore power for the port stay
- The system produces a report for each connection covering energy consumption (kWh), connection duration, vessel details and calculated emissions reduction
Technical data
- Shore power capacity from 3.5 MW to 14 MW
- Scales to reduced hotel loads of more efficient vessels – e.g. Carnival Panorama (134,000 GT), originally specified for 13 MW, requires 7 MW
Applications
Cruise ships; solutions for other vessel types are under development.
