Vibratech TVD Viscous Torsional Dampers

Viscous torsional dampers for crankshafts, camshafts, drivelines and electric drives, in which an inertia ring shears silicone fluid to turn torsional vibration into heat; made in the USA, ISO 9001:2015.

Description

Vibratech TVD viscous dampers control torsional vibration in rotating shafts, the twisting and rebounding caused by combustion forces, camshaft torque or start-stop of PTO and electric drives. Vibratech TVD (formerly Houdaille) invented the viscous torsional damper in 1946, originally for commercial diesel engines.

How it works

  • An inertia ring inside a sealed housing shears through a thin layer of viscous silicone
  • The silicone is not bonded and acts as a soft spring, converting vibration energy into heat

Types

  • Crankshaft dampers – for durability of high-cylinder-pressure engines; large heavy-duty diesel dampers can be designed for remanufacturing
  • Camshaft dampers – down to 3" outer diameter, hermetically sealed, with optional integrated flanges, gears or pulleys; maintenance-free
  • Driveline dampers – tuned narrow-frequency dampers for PTO shafts, pump drives and similar
  • Electric drive dampers – for hybrid and full-electric drivelines

Key features

  • Higher durability than elastomer dampers
  • Suited to high temperatures and harsh environments
  • Manufactured in the USA; ISO 9001:2015 certified; ITAR registered
