Portable Dynamic Positioning System
Patented modular system of hydraulic outboard azimuth thrusters, power units and DP controls for quick dockside DP-1/2/3 conversion of barges and ships, 300 hp (225 kW) to 3,000 hp (2,250 kW) per thruster.
Description
The Thrustmaster Portable Dynamic Positioning System (PDPS) is a patented modular system of azimuth thrusters, power modules and controls that allows quick dockside conversion of a work barge or ship into a dynamically positioned vessel, to DP-1, DP-2 or DP-3 under the major classification societies.
System
- Several deck-mounted hydraulic outboard thrusters, each with its own hydraulic power unit (HPU)
- Optional air-conditioned DP Control Van housing the DP electronics and controls
- Thrusters mounted directly on deck or on platforms attached to the vessel side; stem length adapted to vessel depth
Key features
- Variable-speed hydrostatic motor in the lower foot, in line with the propeller shaft – no right-angle gears or drive shafts
- Hoses run through the stem; no moving parts in the stem, no intermediate stem support needed
- Transmission efficiency 80–82% at full load and 82–85% at half load
- Hydraulic system damps propeller and engine vibration; no torsional or lateral critical speeds in the operating range
- DP thrust feedback from hydraulic pressure, proportional to propeller torque
- Heat exchanger, charge/return/flushing filters and pressurized breathers keep fluid clean and cool
