GATE RUDDER® System – Safety and Crabbing Mode
GATE RUDDER® System safety features: standard crabbing mode for turning on the spot and sideways movement, steering redundancy if one rudder fails, NK-approved rudder strength and a dedicated Tokyo Keiki PR-9000-GT autopilot.
Description
The GATE RUDDER® System from Kamome Propeller combines its energy-saving twin-blade layout with features that improve maneuvering safety and redundancy.
Key features
- Crabbing mode (standard): both rudder blades swing behind the propeller to create side thrust at the stern, like a stern thruster; combined with a bow thruster, the vessel can turn on the spot and move sideways for safer berthing and unberthing
- Redundancy: the vessel can still be steered with one rudder if the other fails
- Structural design: FEM (finite element method) calculations; rudder strength (blade and stock) has received approval from ClassNK (NK)
- Dedicated autopilot: Tokyo Keiki PR-9000-GT autopilot controls both rudders optimally, so crews steer as with a conventional rudder
Autopilot (Tokyo Keiki PR-9000-GT)
- Rudder angle control optimized for the GATE RUDDER® System
- Optional dial switch for crabbing mode
