Wärtsilä Fuel Conversions

Wrtsil

Fuel conversion and retrofit solutions for 4-stroke and 2-stroke marine engines to run on alternative fuels such as LNG and methanol, including feasibility studies.

Description

Wärtsilä fuel conversions retrofit existing vessels so their engines can run on alternative, lower-carbon fuels, cutting carbon, SOx and NOx emissions and supporting compliance with EEXI and CII. Retrofit solutions are available for both 4-stroke and 2-stroke engines, together with related fuel gas supply and storage systems.

Feasibility study

A conversion feasibility study for an existing vessel includes preliminary engineering drawings, key piping diagrams and a written report covering:

  • Engine conversion plan
  • Recommended onboard fuel storage solutions
  • Estimated structural modifications
  • High-level weight change calculations
  • Automation and control system modifications
  • Operational comparison of alternative fuel vs diesel
  • Preliminary cost estimate and project schedule
  • Risk assessment
