Marine Fuel Management Tech Launched in Mexico

Diesel power specialist Royston has expanded the worldwide distribution network for its Enginei marine fuel management system with new sales representation in Mexico. The newly created IntellFuel de Mexico will provide sales, distribution and technical service support for the Enginei system, which uses powerful data collection software to significantly expand the range of real time fuel, engine performance and voyage data used for crucial fuel analysis and optimization decisions.

Growing ship owner focus on vessel performance issues, with accurate bunkering and fuel management reporting, has prompted an upsurge in interest in marine engine monitoring systems. Diesel power specialist Royston reports that its Enginei fuel management system has been particularly successful in Nigeria, with the fuel monitoring system now being installed in 25 vessels and a similar number planned for installation in the coming months. To meet demand in Nigeria, Royston sells, installs and provides servicing back-up using its own factory trained engineers with local support where required.

Maersk Vessel Gets Royston Enginei System

The Maersk Logger, AHTV (Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel) has been fitted with a Royston Enginei system to monitor fuel consumption during all phases of its operation. The 90-meter ship was built in 2009 under the Clean Design Class Notation, and since the vessel’s charterer is also the fuel owner they wanted a system for the continuous monitoring of its bunker consumption. This has now been installed and in future the Enginei system will enable the ship’s environmental impact and fuel consumption to be monitored more closely by the crew and by technical staff ashore.

Tug Malta Chooses Royston for Engine Monitoring System

Tug Malta, the only company licensed for towage operations in Malta, is having a Royston enginei fuel consumption monitoring system fitted to its newest tug. The vessel is currently under construction at the Zamakona yard in Spain and when it enters service the new system will enable it to be operated with maximum fuel economy. The enginei system will supply data from all five diesel engines aboard the tug. These comprise two Caterpillar 3516 main engines, two Caterpillar 6.6 auxiliary engines and one Deutz BF4M1013M harbour generator set.

Google's Reicher to Invest in Offshore Wind

According to an Oct. 12 report from Google Inc., the Web company that a decade ago used engineering prowess to conquer the nascent online advertising market, is now aiming technology and its cash pile at another fledgling industry: offshore wind farming. The report said the company declared it is investing in a $5b underwater network that can channel electricity from wind turbines scattered off the Atlantic coast, enough to light up 1.9 million homes from New York to Virginia.
